“Church Work” Or “The Work Of The Church”

  -

In the life of the church, two important concepts exist: “Church Work” and “The Work of the Church.” Church work refers to the physical and administrative activities that seek to fulfill the Gospel in the community and beyond.

While both concepts are vital, the work of the church holds greater significance because it embodies the heart of the Christian mission—to reach out to those in need and share the Gospel—the Good News.

In a world yearning for meaning and connection, prioritizing the work of the church is essential for living out your faith authentically and effectively.

Here are four key points that highlight why the work of the church has greater significance than church work:

  • Community Outreach: Addresses needs and demonstrates Christ’s love while building connections within the community.

“For I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me something to drink…” (Matthew 25:35-40)

  • Evangelism: Encourages spiritual growth and invites others into a relationship with God.

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations…” (Matthew 28:19-20)

  • Discipleship: Provides opportunities for spiritual education and mentorship to help believers grow in their faith and develop their gifts for service.

“And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.” (2 Timothy 2:2)

  • Encouragement of Unity: Promotes collaboration among diverse groups, to foster a shared purpose within the body of Christ.

“Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” (Ephesians 4:3)

While anyone can perform church work tasks, it is the passionate, service-oriented heart that energizes and sustains the work of the church, creating an environment where lives are transformed, and communities are impacted.

Will you commit to doing “The Work of the Church?”
